“How do you know what to write?”
How did I come up with the books I wrote, and what will I write next? I don’t know. This isn’t my day job, it’s sort of a weird hobby that I enjoy. I wrote the Multisite ones because I was pretty much copy/pasting from a doc into forum posts. I wrote the eBook one because I was asked “How did you do that?” The plugin book was really hard, actually. Not just because of the impostor syndrome thing, but because the content was tricky to get in an order that made sense to me and I felt might possibly work for someone else.
So, you know, I write what I think is important to write about. Block is rarely my problem. I get inspired by too many things, and I’m always working on at least seventy billion things at once (most of which is not technical stuff). Some of it becomes a block post, some becomes a book, some becomes a long email to my wife. But I write and thing and think and write and on and on. That’s the trick you know.
Defeat writer’s block by writing. Even if it’s shitty, keep writing.
What will I write next?
No, don’t think this means I absolutely will write about those things, but I wonder sometimes what you guys think I’d be good at writing about.
